When acquired by FAI from pioneer fire agate collector Dane Heller this stone had been partially carved to the rough shape of a bird's head with beak and headdress suggested but lacking all detail. The stone, seated in a black and brown agate mix, has been expertly carved by Joe Intili leaving the white chalcedony on the stone to form the crowning feather details, and using the brown agate matrix to form the beak. An exceptional example
of older Arizona Deer Creek fire agate, Joe has meticulously preserved the color patterns
while carving a vividly realistic bird of prey. A brilliant Mexican bull's eye fire agate
has been epoxed in place to form the bird's eye and the half inch thick stone has been
drilled through to accommodate a 14K gold pendant bale. This stone's extreme iridescence
and the life-like realism of the carving make this one of a kind collector's piece of
inestimable value. |
